BUCS Teams
Newcastle University Tennis Club primarily competes in BUCS (British University and College Sport) against other universities from around the UK. We have five teams in total with our men's 1st team in the Northern Premier Division and our women's in Tier 1 North. Any young students applying to Newcastle can be safe in the knowledge that they can compete at a high level throughout the season.
Our teams compete in BUCS on Wednesday afternoons with home matches mostly hosted at the Northumberland Club and away matches taking place across the north of England and sometimes into Scotland. The higher the division a team plays the wider the geographical span of opponents.
Our tennis teams are made up of four players who each play one singles match and one doubles match per fixture. Teams are picked based on rankings established at the start of the season. These rankings can be altered at key intervals throughout the season to account for any changes in standard amongst the squad.
Last season all of our teams held their league positions barring our newly created men's 3rd team which gained promotion from Tier 5 in their inaugural season. Following a season in which most teams were promoted, holding four league positions and gaining one promotion was a result for the club to be proud of.
