After reaching the quarter-finals in last year's edition of the Mark Bates National Championships Head Table Tennis Coach Graeme Barella was flying the flag for the North East again in Nottingham.
Graeme had stormed through qualifying to reach the group stage and just missed out on a place in the final 16 in the men's singles category, losing out 3-2 to Sam Wilson. He then competed with partners Ben Pigott and Rachel Baker in the last 16 of men's and mixed doubles, unfortunately losing out in both.
To have a head coach playing at such a high level is just one of the many reasons Newcastle University table tennis has made leaps and bounds over the past few years. Graeme will no doubt be passing on some of the lessons he learnt in Nottingham!
